About Our Volunteer Services
The Lennox & Addington County General Hospital (LACGH) Auxiliary was established in 1963, three years before the Hospital opened. The Auxiliary’s first task was to raise funds to help equip the new hospital. In 2006, the organization became the Volunteer Services to LACGH.
Throughout the past 58 years, the purchase of essential medical equipment for the enhancement of patient care and therapy has remained a constant goal. Most recently, we have purchased an ECG machine for the Emergency Room, two colonoscopes for the Operating Room, twenty transport wheelchairs, a patient monitor, a bronchial intubation system, blanket warmers for Diagnostic Imaging, non-slip socks for the Falls Prevention Program, TV’s for patient rooms, and, teamed with a community business, an improved food delivery system. As well, we have supported the Dialysis Unit, the Chemotherapy Unit, the BREATHE Program, a Long Term Care Activity fund, and a Social Work fund. We provide activity kits to children waiting in the Emergency Room. In our support for the future, we donate $500 bursaries annually to high-achieving secondary school graduates pursuing a career in health care programs. Most recently, we donated $16,500 to the LACGH Foundation for its IV Pumps campaign.
Annual fundraising events include the Valentine’s Tea, Indoor Yard Sale, and Christmas Bazaars. The well-stocked Gift and Coffee Shop, sales of HELPP lottery tickets, and rentals of TV’s provide additional funding.
Volunteers make the personal commitment to provide their time and talents in various ways. You will see the “red vests” and “green vests” offering support throughout the Hospital.
Volunteers greet patients and visitors at the Main, Lower Level, and Triage Entrances and offer help with kiosk registration. We give direction to in-hospital services such as Same Day Surgery, Radiology, Laboratory, Outpatient Clinics, Bone Densitometry & Mammography, Chemotherapy, and Physiotherapy. Direct Care Volunteers offer daily support in the Inpatient Departments, Emergency Department, Recovery Room, and Mammography and in Long Term Care. Hospitality Cart volunteers visit patients on a regular basis.
