About the Volunteer Services

The Lennox & Addington County General Hospital (LACGH) Auxiliary was established in 1963, three years before the Hospital was opened. The Auxiliary’s first task was to raise funds to help equip the new hospital. In 2006 the organization became the Volunteer Services to LACGH. Throughout the past 57 years, the purchase of essential medical equipment for the enhancement of patient care and therapy has remained the constant goal. Annual fundraising events include the Valentine's Tea,Indoor Yard Sale, and Christmas Bazaars. The well stocked Gift and Coffee Shop, sales of the HELPP lottery tickets and TV Rentals also provide additional funding.

Volunteers make the personal commitment to provide their time and talents in many different ways. You will see the “red vests” and “green vests” offering support throughout the healthcare facility.

Volunteers greet patients and visitors at the Main, Lower Level and Triage Entrances and offer assistance with kiosk registration and direction to the various in-hospital services such as Same Day Surgery, Radiology, Laboratory, Outpatient Clinics, Bone Densitometry & Mammography, Chemotherapy and Physiotherapy. Direct Care Volunteers offer daily support in the Inpatient Departments, Emergency Department, Recovery Room and Mammography. Hospitality Cart volunteers visit patients on a regular basis.

Over the last several years, our Volunteer Services has funded the purchase of 2 Colonoscopes for the OR, an ECG Machine for the ER, 10 transport wheelchairs, activity kits for children in the ER, a patient monitor, a bronchial intubation system, a blanket warmer for Diagnostic Imaging and contributed to the CAT Scanner. Volunteer Services has supported the Dialysis Unit, Chemotherapy Unit, Breathe Program, Convalescent Care Activity Program, an improved food delivery system, the new MRI for KHC, a Social Work Fund and the Falls Prevention Program by providing non-slip socks.
Volunteer Services continue to provide rental TV's in patients' rooms and to donate every year, three $500.00 bursaries to to our three local Secondary Schools for high-achieving students pursuing a career in health care programs after graduation.
