About the LACGH Volunteer Services

The Lennox and Addington County General Hospital (LACGH) Auxiliary was established in 1963, some three years before the Hospital was opened. The Auxiliary’s first task was to raise funds to help equip the new hospital. In 2006 the organization became the Volunteer Services to LACGH. Throughout the past 55 years, the purchase of essential medical equipment for the enhancement of patient care and therapy has remained the constant goal. Annual fundraising events include the Valentine's Tea, Mother's Day Tea, Harvest and Christmas Luncheons / Bazaars and Hospital Bridge. Our well stocked Gift and Coffee Shop, HELPP lottery ticket sales and TV rentals also provide additional funding.

Volunteers make the personal commitments to provide their time and talents in many different ways. You will see the “red vests” and “green vests” offering support throughout the healthcare facility.

Volunteers greet patients and visitors at the Main, Lower Level and Triage Entrances and offer assistance with kiosk registration and direction to the various in-hospital services such as Same Day Surgery, Radiology, Laboratory, Outpatient Clinics, Bone Densitometry & Mammography, Chemotherapy and Physiotherapy. Direct Care Volunteers offer daily support in the Inpatient departments, Emergency Department, Recovery Room and Mammography. Hospitality and Library cart volunteers visit patients on a regular basis.
In the past 5 years, our Volunteer Services has funded the purchase of a colonoscope for the OR, 10 transport wheelchairs, activity funds for Convalescent Care, and given funding for the Dialysis Unit. In partnership with Mike and Suzanne Stevens of Country Traditions, a food delivery system was purchased in 2016 to enhance the quality of patient meals. All patient rooms have been equipped with television sets. Every year three $500.00 bursaries are presented to our three area High Schools for high-achieving students pursuing a career in health services.

The Volunteer Services to LACGH is a member of the Hospital Auxiliary Association of Ontario (HAAO) and encourages members to attend various education opportunities.
